The Story so far...

2020

The Little Chalfont Area Dementia Support was born from an initiative of Little Chalfont Community Association during the Covid epidemic of 2020 and sponsored by Mr Roger Funk and Mrs Helen Tyers. The initial thought was to create a space where those with dementia and their carers would visit to allow the exchange of ideas and the sharing of experiences. The objective was to open cafés supported by the creation of a charity which was formed in 2023. St Georges Church host Café 22 which opened in February 2022 followed by Café 23 at Amersham Football Club in November 2023.

Present day...

Café 22 and Café 23 offer a regular meeting place for people living with dementia and all memory loss and for those caring for them in an informal friendly environment. Both Cafés offer a means of improving well-being by providing a place to chat ask questions share experiences and reminisce but above all a place of interest and enjoyment. Carers are encouraged to spend time together while the guests are attended to by the volunteers.

Our Volunteers

We have a group of trained volunteers at each coffee morning and offer a variety of activities such as art crafts games and music Each Café is operated under the guidance of Laura Harrington  in Little Chalfont and Lynne Remick in Amersham who are assisted by volunteers. Many of the volunteers have personal experience of dementia whilst others have experience in nursing all have been trained in dementia enabling them to assist the carers.

Cafe23 has recently received an Award presented by the High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire and Vice President of Heart of Bucks Community Foundation, Pippa Kirkbride.
